Dr. Martens Summer 2011 Collection

Dr. Martens has two hot new shoes coming out this summer:

Dr. Martens 1461 ‘Made in England’ Leopard & Zebra Shoes

Animal prints continue to be a hot design this season, popping up on skirts, bathing suits, dresses and, of course, shoes! Dr. Martens has just released a great line of leopard and zebra print shoes. Choose from the Dr. Martens 1461 ‘Made in England’ faux leopard pattern and zebra hair shoe, which both have the classic ‘Bouncing Sole’ construction, 3-hole laces, and rounded toe.

The Dr. Martens collection is called the “Animal Pack” and will be available soon through Doc Martens retailers.

The Doc Martens 3989 Brogue and Saddle Shoe

This collection was part of a recent tradeshow presentation in Paris. This classic-looking collection consists of a dressy-looking Doc Marten Brogue that is even great with a suit in the office, while the Docs Saddle Shoe is made for a night out on the town. Both shoe styles offer some casual appeal as they feature a rubber outsole.

Dr. Martens and Sanrio Summer 2011 Collection

Last year we told you all about the Sanrio Hello Kitty Dr. Martens, and fortunately, it wasn’t a one-time collaboration! Sanrio and Dr. Martens have once again teamed up to create a cute collection of Hello Kitty footwear that hits the stores this summer. The summer 2011 Hello Kitty Dr. Martens are available in two new styles: the Shoreditch Boot and Carnaby Mary Jane.

The Shoreditch Boot is a seven-hole Doc with the classic air-cushioned sole, yellow stitching, and Dr. Martens tag on the top right side of the shoe and at the back. The colourful upper features a mix of Sanrio characters: Hello Kitty, Chococat and Keroppi, Little Twin Stars, My Melody and Patty & Jimmy. The Carnaby Mary Jane is a stylish, low-cut shoe with one strap that showcases the same characters on the upper.

So, if you missed out on the first Dr. Martens and Hello Kitty collaboration, now’s your chance! The boot and shoe will soon be available in North American stores and online.

Also new for the summer – the Vans Hello Kitty show, check them out!

Dr. Martens Spring/Summer 2011 DRIFT Launch!

Dr. Martens have launched their spring/summer 2011 ‘DRIFT’ collection, and it’s a change from the signature tough leather and air-cushioned soles. The launch party was held in New York, in the Post Museum. Attendees stepped into a room decorated like a small American town, with raw wooden plank walls, acoustic instruments, vintage door frames and brass furniture.

The DRIFT Doc Martens collection launch is part of a growing trend – the pop-up Dr. Martens store. Basically, you check out an amazing art installation and get to shop for Docs at the same time. Fortunately, you don’t have to jet to New York to get your hands on a hot pair of Dr. Martens spring/summer 2011 styles.

The Dr. Martens 2011 DRIFT collection is all about comfort, style and simplicity, and the designs are lightweight and casual – there’s even a pretty pair of floral-patterned Mary Janes! Check out some photos of the Dr. Martens spring/summer 2011 DRIFT collection.

Dr. Martens Launches New Line of Limited Edition Satchels

You’ve probably heard the old saying “your handbag should match your shoes.” Dr. Martens has made it easy with their recent (and somewhat surprising) launch of limited edition satchels, which many are calling the “it” bag of the moment. You don’t really associate the iconic, sturdy boots with delicate satchels, but Dr. Martens once again proves they can change with the times to produce unique, current pieces. Remember, too, that Dr. Martens has gotten more fashion-forward in recent years – examples include leopard-print and floral-patterned Docs.

Dr. Martens handbags have been spotted on celebrities such as Alice Dellal and supermodel Agyness Deyn, sporting what many fashion magazines are calling ‘grunge chic.’ Helping make this early 90s fashion phenomenon relevant again is Dr. Martens, with five colours to choose from: cherry red, black, green, navy and white.

These limited edition Dr. Martens satchels are part of a ‘Made in England’ line by a group of leather artisans, and they retail for around $250. Check out a photo of one of the Dr. Martens limited edition satchels.

1460 8-Eye Dr. Martens Boots: A Tried & True Classic

When Dr. Martens boots first started coming off the line over 50 years ago, they had been produced to serve a purpose. The boots were initially designed to suit the needs of the working class, however over time they have become a fashion statement. While the quality of the boots has always remained the same, some small changes have been made in order to keep up with modern fashion. One of the main additions that has been made to many collections from Dr. Martens is the option to buy your boots in a variety of colours.

When you think of the 1460 8-Eye Boot from Dr. Martens, you may instinctively picture the original black and oxblood colour choices (which are still available), however there are now many colour options available for the boots. Purple, yellow, green and blue are just a few of the choices for the 1460 boot, however even these bright shades appear tame when compared to the metallic finish options (which include gold and metallic blue).

Many other Dr. Martens styles, such as the 1461 3-Eye Shoe and the Pascal 8-Eye Boot are available in a number of unique colour choices.

Dr. Martens Boots: The Vintage Collection

Dr. Martens boots have been around for over 50 years. In this time, they have become extremely well known for their durability as well as their old school looks. As the boots gain popularity by the day and demand increases, it becomes easy to question whether or not the quality and sturdy construction associated with Dr. Martens will begin to disappear. If you’re looking for proof that your Dr. Martens will be just as tough as the boots that came off the line in the 1960’s, look no further than the Vintage Collection.

The Adrian Tassel Loafer is among the various styles available in the Vintage Collection. They have a sophisticated, classic look and are available in a number of colours.

The Capper 8-Eye boot is another style available in the Vintage Collection. The boot’s eight eyelet design provides a great deal of support and comfort, while the two colour choices (Oxblood and Black) give the boots a classic Dr. Martens look.

There are many more styles to be found in the Vintage Collection, all of which are made using original construction techniques in the Dr. Martens factory (Wollaston, Northamptonshire, England).

Celebrities Who Wear Doc Martens

Dr. Martens have evolved a great deal over the years. From their introduction as a work boot, they made their way into the underground music scene as well as a handful of other rebellious sub-cultures. Decades later, the boots began to appear in more mainstream settings, even ending up on the occasional television show as their popularity grew throughout the 90‘s. Over time however, the fad seemed to fade, and Dr. Martens were once again seen as an underground fashion statement.

Could it be that as 2010 comes to an end, Dr. Martens could once again be finding their way into the spotlight? Many people are beginning to see Dr. Martens as more of a fashion accessory than a statement, and among them are a handful of celebrities. We’ve talked about Converse-wearing celebrities in the past, and it looks like Doc Martens are following the same trend. Both Jessica Alba and Dakota Fanning have recently been spotted wearing the boots. Jessica was sporting Dr. Martens 1460 boots, while Dakota was seen in a pair of 1914 boots. Taylor Momsen and Whitney Port have also been seen in Dr. Martens, along with models Agyness Deyn and Daisy Lowe.

Doc Martens Celebrates 50 Years with Music!

It’s taken half a century for Dr. Martens to gain the popularity that they have today. Over the past 50 years, the shoes have played roles in numerous sub-cultures, being worn by many before they were seen as cool or fashionable. Although they were initially designed for their practicality, what started out as a simple boot for the working class has now evolved into an iconic fashion statement, and made it’s way into the mainstream one pair at a time.

In April of 2010, Dr. Martens celebrated their 50th anniversary. To mark the occasion, they released a ten-song album, which can be downloaded by visiting www.drmartens.com. Each song was recorded by a different artist, and was intended to capture the spirit of Dr. Martens, along with those who have worn them for so many years. Artists who recorded songs for the album include The Raveonettes, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Michael Davis and D.O.A. To go with the music, Dr. Martens also had a different director create a video for each of the tracks (also found on the Dr. Martens website).

How to Break in Your Dr. Martens

From classic black leather Docs to animal-print patterned boots, the brand sure gives you options! While Dr. Martens are known for being really comfortable due to their air-cushioned sole, when you first get a pair you may find them a bit uncomfortable. Rather than limp around with blisters for a week, why not learn some cool tricks to break in your Dr. Martens?

First, realize that a new pair of Dr. Martens is going to hurt your feet a bit at first. Like any new show, you need to break in your Dr. Martens so they fit the shape of your foot.

Dr. Marten’s Wonder Basalm is excellent for softening the leather, so pick up some of this at your local Canadian shoe store. Remember to remove the laces from your boots before you do this.

Choose a comfy, thick pair of socks to avoid chafing on your feet.

Start with a few hours a day, whether wearing your boots in the house, walking to the store, or school. When you’re breaking in your Dr. Martens boots, avoid wearing them all day as this will definitely hurt your feet.

Repeat these steps, continuing to rub the Dr. Marten’s Wonder Basalm on and increasing the amount of time you wear your boots until they feel comfortable. This process usually takes anywhere from one to two weeks.
