A Brand New Look for Converse by John Varvatos: Chuck Taylor All-Star Multi Eyelets

The renowned menswear fashion designer John Varvatos has been collaborating with Converse for ages. His latest look is especially eye-catching because it’s so different from the classic Converse shoe we’ve all grown accustomed to seeing. The Chuck Taylor Multi-Eyelet hightops are made of a faded black canvas, with a rubber toe. The standout feature of the Chuck Taylor Multi-Eyelet hightops are the nearly 30 eyelets on either side, running all the way up the shoe.

Ever since Chuck Taylor’s came onto the court way back in 1917, they’ve been a favourite among athletes and the general Converse-loving population. It’s funny that a style of Converse shoes that were not all that popular until basketball player Chuck Taylor started wearing them went on to become the top-selling style of Cons.

The benefit of the Chuck Taylor Multi-Eyelet hightops is that they keep with the classic basketball court fashion. But, because Varvatos designed them to be more chic and unique, they’re fashionable enough for guys looking for something a bit more refined than the regular canvas Chucks. The Chuck Taylor Multi-Eyelet hightops are a vintage style with a modern twist, and they’re good to go with jeans or a dress jacket.

Converse “Balls” For Fall

Last fall Converse Basketball unveiled their all new, revolutionary cushioning system known as “Balls Technology.” This aptly-named shoe style means that your feet will be cushioned on the court by a bunch of polyurethane balls encased in TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer). The balls will compress and react during the game, while cushioning the heel and providing stability.

Last week at the Nike/Jordan/Converse Fall 2010 Basketball Showcase, Converse Basketball unveiled their spanking new collection of performance shoes. In addition to the Balls Technology in the new kicks, Converse Basketball is going back to its Star Chevron logo on all fall models. (Remember the Star Chevron logo? No? Jog your memory here).

Converse Basketball has also totally revamped the Weapon shoe for this collection, which was originally manufactured in a rainbow of colours to match the kit colours of basketball teams. The Weapon is heavily padded and features tough leather construction throughout for ultimate comfort and performance. While the colour schemes have been updated, the new Converse Basketball Weapon shoes have the old-school forefoot support and Y-Bar of the older models, which were popularized by Magic Johnson and Larry Bird in the 1986 NBA season.

See hot photos of all the new Converse Basketball styles that will be hitting shoe stores this fall, just in time for the 2010 basketball season!

Celebrity Converse Wearers

It’s not just us normal folk who love the look and feel of Converse shoes. They’re often spotted on the famous feet of Hollywood celebrities. Even the First Lady Michelle Obama was seen wearing a bright purple pair of new Converse shoes while painting. Here are some of the other stars who like to sport Converse shoes:

Ben Affleck: Ben goes for the classic low-key style of All-Star Chuck Taylor’s.
Jessica Alba: Jessica was seen at a playground with her daughter Honor wearing some funky purple low-cut women’s Converse. She was also spotted filling up her tank in white Chuck Taylor Converse.
Kirsten Dunst: Kirsten has been seen a few times in pink high-top Converse shoes.
Sara Paxton: This rising star of movies like Aquamarine and The Last House on the Left said in an interview that she owns new Converse shoes in every colour, as well as a few pairs of custom Vans.
Jennifer Aniston: It fits that this laid-back, girl-next-door would wear low-cut women’s slip-on Converse shoes in beige.

It seems like lots of celebrities prefer the old-school black, low-cut Chuck Taylor Converse, like Liv Tyler, Hilary Duff, Justin Long, Avril Lavigne, Halle Berry, and Ellen Page.

Really, it’s impossible to list all the celebrities here who have been spotted in Converse shoes. It seems like Hollywood stars are just like us – they love their Converse!

Converse Shoes: Musical Collections

Whether you aspire to be a rock star or just want to look like one, there’s a Converse Musical Collection shoe for you! The Rock n’ Roll Converse shoes feature dozens of designs around famous bands throughout history, and fortunately for music fans, they have a number to choose from, including:

*The Grateful Dead
*Black Sabbath
*The Doors
*The Who
*Pink Floyd
*Ozzy Osbourne
*Blondie
*The Clash
*Metallica
*AC/DC

Here are three Converse fan favourites:

1) Retro Blondie Converse sneakers will have you humming “Heart of Glass” before you know it. Low-cut Blondie Converse are available in zebra-print or thick black-and-white stripes, both with pink running around the bottom of the canvas. There’s also the black high-top Converse sneaker screened with a classic Blondie photo.

2) Die-hard rock fans will be more enamoured with the Chuck Taylor All Star AC/DC’s, celebrating one of metal’s most legendary acts. The Chuck Taylor AC/DC Converse shoes feature the whole band screened on a black Converse, with the iconic red and black AC/DC symbol on the foxing bad.

3) The Doors take the simple Chuck Taylor to the next level with a brown-toned, distressed patchwork Converse shoe, featuring Jim Morrison’s face screened on the heel. If you want a less subtle fashion statement, these Converse sneakers are also available in the always-chic black and white.

Which rock band do you think will be the next to be featured on a Converse sneaker? Fortunately, Converse shoes seems to stick to promoting classic, generation-changing bands who have paid their dues in the music industry – we have yet to see an undeserving musical group featured on their shoe, and let’s hope it stays that way!

Happy Anniversary Jack Purcell Converse!

This year marks the 75th anniversary of Jack Purcell being a part of Converse. John Edward “Jack” Purcell was born in Canada, and was a world champion badminton player. He was the Canadian National Badminton Champion in 1929 and 1930, and also declared the world champion in 1933; retiring in 1945.

Way back in 1935, Purcell designed a canvas and rubber badminton sneaker for Converse. He wanted a Converse men’s shoe that would provide more support on the badminton court. This Converse men’s shoe looks very similar to the Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars, but can be easily distinguished by the signature “smile” across the toe.

Like always, Converse men’s shoes move forward with unique new styles, but still keep true to their roots, with classics like the Jack Purcell.  Jack Purcell Converse for men are no different: still an incredibly popular style for men, in July, you’ll see a modern collaboration between Converse Jack Purcell and XLarge and X-Girl. They’ve taken the classic Jack Purcell Converse look and made it more contemporary, with white canvas and embroidery details on the heel.

In summer 2010 you’ll also see a new twist on an old classic with  Jack Purcell men’s boat shoes, and this fall, Converse will also preview three new styles of the Jack Purcell Converse.

A New Twist on a Classic: Fresh Converse High-Tops & Low-Tops

Classic never goes out of style, and that’s the case with these two twists on an old look for men’s and women’s Converse shoes for summer 2010. Converse shoes have been a must-have in closets for around 100 years, and while they’ve kept their look simple and traditional they’re constantly updating the brand with new designs and artwork that attracts new customers and keeps Converse collectors coming back.

Brophy Converse High-Top Shoes

Renowned artist Drew Brophy has teamed up with Converse to bring his signature beach designs to Converse high-tops, launching the Brophy Summer 2010 Chuck Taylor collection. Brophy is well-known for his custom artwork on surfboards, skateboards and wakeboards. These Converse high-tops evoke images of chasing the waves on Southern California beaches, featuring surf images, sunshine and water motifs splashed on blank white canvas.

Jack Purcell Converse Shoes

A reincarnation of their earlier and wildly popular successor the Marine Sea Crisp Boat Shoe, the nautical Jack Purcell Converse shoes merge the modern with the traditional. Available in three seafaring colours: navy, white and multicolour, all have canvas tops and rubber outsoles. So, whether you’re lounging on a yacht deck or meeting friends on a restaurant patio, Jack Purcell Converse shoes will complete your summer look.

Besides the new Converse high-top shoes mentioned, their fresh summer 2010 collection includes a rainbow of pastels in colours like jellybean pink, robins-egg blue and sunshine yellow. Find them here.

Things Women are Looking for in Their Shoes

Exclusive craftsmanship is something they fall for easily. Therefore it’s not surprising that they choose to go with specialty shoes such as converse shoes. Women like the idea of being comfortable in their shoes. Nothing can be better than being able to talk, work and spend entire day comfortable in their shoes. Nobody wants uncomfortable shoes that expose them to hazards of bad posture. Come what may, the shoes must be presentable. Rest of the facts only comes into play if the women are sure that their shoes are looking good.
