One of the latest fads to hit the stores this season: sneakers that promise to tone up your butt, thighs and legs. Reebok has just come out with their new EasyTone sneakers, and Skechers has their similar Shape-ups. While the ads look promising, do they work?

Reebok says that their EasyTones provide “28% more muscle activation within the glutes and around 11% more muscle activation within the hamstrings and calves… significantly more that the standard performance shoe.”

The key to these sneakers that firm your body is instability. They have a sloping design that means you have to work harder to balance in them. The sneaker manufacturer’s also advise against playing any sports in them due to this instability, meaning you can only walk in these rocker-soled sneakers.

The consensus: before you head to your Canadian shoe retailer to pick up a pair of body-toning sneakers, realize that there’s no miracle fix to get in shape. These sneakers may help you tighten and tone if you’re willing to put in the work and walk for at least 20 to 30 minutes three times per week. But, if you’re expecting a bikini body without much effort, or without sacrificing the snacks, you’re going to be sadly disappointed in these sneakers.
