Andy Davis is a surf-inspired artist who has been creating unique artwork for years; he recently set up a website where people can purchase prints and originals and keep up with news on his work with artists and organisations like Thomas Campbell, the Surfrider Foundation and Patagonia.

Davis has this to say about his collaboration with Vans:

“My art is a daydream. I get lost in the process of painting and drawing; it is the only part of my life that has never had rules. Every person that sees my work has a different interpretation of the meaning and I like it that way.”

One of the most recognizable and influential groups that have found their way on to a pair of Vans shoes is The Sex Pistols. The Sex Pistols slip on Vans shoe is built from a basic black and white shoe. The Vans shoe features The Sex Pistols logo on the rear section, along with The Sex Pistols “God Save The Queen” logo on the upper front portion. Vans has released a number of band inspired shoes, featuring artists such as Rise Against, Killswitch Engage, Mastodon, Rob Zombie, The Pixies, Suicidal Tendencies and KISS.

The “Authentic” is one of Vans’ most stylish and popular shoes, however the Hemp Authentic manages to be environmentally friendly while still turning heads. With one look at the shoe’s hemp upper section (available in 6 colours) and 40% recycled rubber outsole, it becomes clear that you don’t have to trade style for eco friendliness.

Although the use of hemp and recycled rubber are steps in the right direction, the Hemp “106 SF” takes things a little further. Not only does this shoe feature a hemp upper section, but it is also constructed using water based inks and glues, along with bamboo lining.

Vans sells footwear and apparel for casual wear and for activities such as skateboarding, snowboarding, BMXing and motocross. Many of Vans current shoe designs are created by professional skateboarders, while other designs reflect popular bands or TV shows on their canvas uppers.

The 1982 movie “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” put the brand on the map with Sean Penn’s character rocking a pair of classic Vans shoes. They quickly became a favourite of California surfers and skateboarders, who wore them for their durable gum rubber outsole and signature waffle bottom. Nowadays, men, women, children and babies all sport Vans shoes styles.

Vans itself operates more than 200 stores in the western US and in Europe, and merchandise is sold in stores all over the world, in national chain stores and in skate, surf and specialty shops. The tradition continues, with both modern and traditional Vans shoes available in shops everywhere.

Dustin, who has been featured in Tony Hawk video games, designed the shoe with some improvements to the upper to make it more suitable for skateboarding and added high performance features like a full length PU footbed. The result is more durable and more cushioned skateboarding shoe, tried and tested by Dustin – aka “Spawn” – himself.

The most standout feature on the DD Spawn skateboarding shoe is the fat forefront Velcro strap, which is also seen on the Mt. Edition Low. Other features of the DD Spawn skateboarding shoe: it has custom pro graphics, a low profile silhouette, premium suede and leather uppers, and of course, signature vulcanized waffle sole.

Pro skater Geoff Rowley thought about his early days of skating while he was creating the newest Vans shoe, bringing in what he liked to wear when he first started skateboarding in England at the age of 13.  For this season’s design, he drew a lot of inspiration from his earlier, popular Squares skate shoe, but added some updates to make the look more fashionable.

Rowley has made sure that the new Vans Stripes ideally balance durability, grip and comfort, with a sturdy design that is cushioned yet lightweight. You can find the Vans Rowley in four rich colourways: eggplant with cement accents, black with white, cement with pebble, and black on black. And, attention animal lovers: Tthese new Vans men’s shoes are vegan and animal-friendly, made of synthetic leather and canvas – although you can get the Rowley with reinforced suede uppers.

Well, like every other trend – from bell bottoms to neon sunglasses, the canvas boat shoe has made a comeback. Vans sneakers released their new models from the Vans Vault shoe Collection in January 2010, but we haven’t been seeing a lot of them until now, as it heats up and more people hit the beach or congregate on the streets downtown.

Two of the most popular Vans Vault shoes for spring/summer 2010 come in either a bold, rich purple or a soft mahogany brown, both with a sturdy leather upper and the traditional Vans tag and waffle-design soles to prevent slipping.

It also looks like the Vans Vault shoe ollection will bring another fresh footwear perspective to stores in the fall of 2010. Word is that the new autumn Vans Vault shoe line will features the same casual style with leather uppers and a native inspiration.

However, let’s not think about the arrival of fall or winter just yet…let’s just enjoy the sun, sand, and everything else summertime has to offer!

He even made fun of Canada in his Straight Outta Lynwood album, with the song “Canadian Idiot,” a parody of Green Day’s song “American Idiot.” The song makes fun of Canadians for living on donuts and moose meat, and he sings:

But, there’s one thing that Weird Al takes very seriously – Vans Shoes. Yankovic says he’s been collecting Vans shoes since the early 80’s, and owns about 100 pairs, mostly Vans slip-ons. His collection of crazy shoes, which include Vans slip-ons with palm trees, Hawaiian patterns and of course, the classic checkerboard squares, are often seen onstage when he performs. This year, Vans has a special Warped Tour 2010 collection: a Chukka Low, two Authentics, and some flip flops. You’ve got your basic black or pale blue Vans Authentics, while the Chukkas feature a bold red and black design on the quarter panel. The flip flops are a funky dayglo style.
